HARE / PRIVACY

Privacy

Hare (紫毫) is a Chinese keyboard for iPhone and iPad. What you type is private; this page explains what data the app and this website actually handle, and which features connect to outside services. If this translation and the Simplified Chinese version differ, the Simplified Chinese version prevails.

1. Everyday typing and on-device data

To convert pinyin, suggest candidates and predictions, and edit text, the keyboard reads what you type in the current field and the text around the cursor. This processing normally happens on your device; Hare does not send your keystrokes or typed text to the developer’s servers for everyday typing.

The app stores on your device the input schemes, dictionaries, Quick Phrases, themes and switches you set, plus learning records that improve candidates, recent emoji and character counts. The keyboard and the app exchange these settings and records through an iOS shared container. A small diagnostic log for troubleshooting the keyboard is also kept on the device.

2. “Allow Full Access”

Without “Allow Full Access”, Hare types with the keyboard’s built-in dictionary, keeps learning records in the keyboard’s own storage, and cannot go online. With it, the keyboard can read the dictionaries, schemes and settings the app prepared through the shared container, and can connect to the network — but turning it on does not by itself make Hare upload what you type. The optional online features are described below; you can turn this permission off in iOS Settings at any time.

3. Outside services you choose

  • Input scheme downloads: When you download or update a Rime configuration or dictionary, the app requests it from the source you selected (such as GitHub, a mirror or an address you enter). That server may receive network information needed for the connection, such as your IP address; these downloads do not send your everyday typing.
  • Online AI and translation: Hare provides no models, service keys or developer proxy servers. You choose a third-party service and enter your own key; when you run a script, your device may send the selected text, the current input or clipboard text directly to that service. The Hare developer cannot read your key or your requests and does not store them on any developer server. The third-party service may process or retain requests under its own privacy policy, your account settings and applicable law. Keys are stored only in the device keychain and are not synced by Hare.
  • Translate as I Type: When it’s on, what you write in the keyboard’s own field is sent to the translation service you chose each time you pause, and the translation is written into the current field. It stops as soon as you tap “Done”, leave the field or dismiss the keyboard. With Apple’s system translation, translation happens on the device without the network.
  • Folder sync: If you choose a sync folder (for example in iCloud Drive), Hare writes character counts, learning records, Quick Phrases, recent emoji and some preferences to it, and reads other devices’ data from the same folder. You choose the folder; the cloud storage provider handles the synced files under its own terms. Turning sync off does not delete files already written.

To support follow-up questions, the keyboard keeps up to 5 recent text conversations on the device and sends up to 10 turns of relevant context when you ask again; these conversations contain no images and are never uploaded to a Hare developer server. If you use a self-hosted model on your local network, the app may connect to the local address you specify. Choosing a photo as the keyboard background or using clipboard suggestions reads that content when you turn it on or use it; background photos stay on the device, and clipboard content is sent to your chosen service only when you run a related online script.

4. Website and purchases

This website has no accounts, forms or analytics scripts and takes no payments. When you visit, the hosting and network providers may process necessary request logs such as IP address, browser information and time of visit.

“Notify me at launch” on the home page opens your email app to write to us. We use your email address only to tell you when Hare launches, never for anything else or share it; we delete it after sending the notice.

Hare is a free download; Hare Pro is an in-app purchase through the App Store. Apple handles purchase and payment, we never receive your payment details, and you don’t need an account. The app checks purchase status on the device through Apple’s StoreKit and stores only whether Pro is unlocked, for the keyboard to read.

5. Storage, deletion and choices

In the app’s settings you can turn off learning, clipboard suggestions, online scripts or folder sync, and delete phrases, themes and other content you added. Deleting the app removes its data from the device, including settings, learning records and local AI conversations; if you used folder sync, delete Hare’s sync files from that folder yourself. For content already sent to a third-party AI or translation service, request deletion under that service’s policy.

6. Updates and contact

When features or data handling change, we update this page and its date. Significant changes will be announced in the app or on this website.
