From adding the keyboard to preparing an input scheme, these steps get you started. This page is updated with each release.
Getting started
- Open the Hare app and follow the prompts on its home screen to prepare the built-in Rime Ice, or import a compatible Rime configuration.
- On your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards and add “Hare”.
- Tap “Hare” and turn on “Allow Full Access” (optional). You can type without it; with it, the keyboard can use the app’s settings, schemes, learning and scripts.
- In any text field, touch and hold the globe key and switch to Hare.
FAQ
I added Hare but can’t find it
Check that it’s in the system keyboard list. If it still doesn’t appear, quit and reopen the app you’re typing in, then touch and hold the globe key to see the available keyboards.
Do I have to turn on “Allow Full Access”?
No. Without it, Hare types normally with the keyboard’s built-in dictionary. Settings changed in the app, imported schemes, learning synced across devices, scripts and Translate as I Type all need it, because iOS only lets a keyboard read its app’s data and go online once it’s on. Turning it on does not upload your everyday typing; for details see the Privacy。
How do I use my own Rime configuration?
Import a compatible configuration on the Input Scheme page of the Hare app and wait for deployment to finish. Import the dictionary files it depends on as well; if candidates look wrong, first check that the configuration and dictionaries are complete.
How do I sync between devices?
Turn on sync in the app and choose the same folder on each device, such as a dedicated folder in iCloud Drive. Sync only runs if you turn it on; for what it covers, see the Privacy。
What’s the difference between Free and Hare Pro?
Everything for typing is free: QWERTY and 9-key, Smart Correction, Smart Learning, mixed Chinese and English, Quick Phrases, clipboard paste, Rime scheme import, and the default and system-style themes. Hare Pro is a one-time purchase that unlocks Translate as I Type, AI scripts (translate, polish, summarize, reply), every theme and background photo, and multi-device sync.
How much is Hare Pro?
Hare Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription. The price is shown by the App Store in your region.
How do I restore Hare Pro on a new phone?
Sign in to the App Store with the same Apple Account, open Settings → Hare Pro in the Hare app, and tap “Restore Purchase”.
How do I use Translate as I Type?
In any text field, switch to Hare, tap the H at the left of the candidate bar, choose “Translate”, then “Translate as I Type”. Write Chinese in the field above the keyboard; when you pause, the translation is written into the chat box. Tap the language button to pick another target language, and “Done” when you finish. Tap the chat box to edit the translation directly, then tap back into the keyboard’s field to write the next part.
Do AI scripts cost money from a third party?
They may. Hare doesn’t provide or resell model services or collect fees for them. You choose a provider and enter your own key for DeepSeek, OpenAI, DeepL or similar; your device calls the service directly, and the provider’s terms govern cost and data handling. On iOS 26 and later you can also choose Apple’s offline translation.
Where can I download it?
The first release excludes mainland China and the EU member states; elsewhere, availability follows the App Store product page. Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are separate App Store regions.
Refunds
Apple handles App Store purchases. To ask for a refund, use Apple’s refund request page.
